Mid-Week Events

It's a sad day for So. Cal. mountain bikers.  The Station Fire hit us hard.  We are still recovering and now along comes the Bull Fire.  Solid information is hard to come by.  Some say the trail is completely gone others say 1/2 gone. Either way, it s going to be awhile before the trail opens again.

Sad as it is, our hearts are heavy for the fire fighters battling the blaze and to those who have lost their homes.  Hopefully they will get this fire under control and keep it away from  homes and animals.  I hope they catch the person responsible for starting the blaze.

Until then, I defininely do not receommend going there for outdoor activity fun.  At the very least, the smoke in the valley will be thick.  Additionally you want to give the crews space to do their thing.  Call your river rafting outfitter frequently and follow their suggestions.

More tomorrow.

Cannell Trail burning
BLOG - 28 July 2010
The Plunge, which is the most famous part of the Cannell Trail, has in fact been burned. Just how much is not exactly known. On Mtbr's blog site someone said it is 3/4 burned as of yesterday. However the pictures show that the canyon north of the trail head is burned but the hill that the trail runs along the north side is not. We Paul provided more comments and pictures here.

Bull Fire Close to Cannell Plunge
BLOG - 27 July 2010
Many of our favorite places are still closed to let Mother Nature do her thing. Mountain bikers have been pushed far and wide to get their 'ride on.' Well we are getting pushed further. This morning the The Porterville Recorder broke another fire - Heat, dry brush fuel Bull Fire to 6,000 acres. I am no expert but due to the terrain, it looks like the Cannell Plunge will be adversely effected.
