JPL - Brown Mountain Loop

There are many iterations of this ride. Everyone can find something they like.
The basic route is from the parking lot up the ravine to the ranger's house then Lower Brown Mountain to Upper Brown Mountain Road and back. There is about 1300 of elevation gain in 6 or 7 miles - 13/14 miles round trip. The grade up is steady but even me in my 205 lbs. body can find a granny gear to get me up. There are multiple bailout spots along the way - just turn around.
Instead of climbing Upper Brown Mountain to the left, you can veer right and pick the El Prieto trail. El Prieto is one of the areas single track treats. Here take a look - the video
For those just beginning their mountain biking experience, follow the stream/wash for a few miles. The grade is much gentler. Eventually the road will become too rocky to ride. You can either hike-a-bike for awhile and check out the scenery or turn around.
There are no facilities on the trail so plan accordingly. Cell coverage is pretty good but think ahead. If you are contemplating about El Prieto also think about a full-face helmet.
Apres ride we could head to Burger Continental in Pasadena for some grub and suds. Don't let the name fool ya it is Middle Eastern food.
Hope to see you there -
