Monrovia Night Rides!

Ridgeside Drive and N Canyon Blvd - Morovia (map)

Selected By: Chris Ashford

Overview: Monrovia Park provides 24/7 access to the San Gabes. While they lock the gate for cars, there is a pedestrian opening on the east side. It is about 5.5 miles to White's Saddle. The GPS states the elevation gain is about 2300' all of it on fire road. Whether you are a noobie anxious to try out your new lights or a pro at night riding, White Saddle has something for you.

The Plan: meet on the street a few blocks away from Monrovia Park. Suit up, gear up and group up. We will take a head count and make sure our gear is good. We will start our roll at 7:05 PM or so. If you have a radio bring it. Depending on group size there will be at least two radios. No one gets left behind.

The climb to White's Saddle is 1+40 minutes or so. We will regroup at White's. Those that want to keep climbing - can - but you will be on your own. The rest of us will turn around and head back to our cars.

Riding at night is much different than the day light - duh - right? Brighter and wider is better but with technology where it is the rider has lots of options. If you do not have lights, I encourage you to visit your favorite bike shop and ask questions :)

Distance :
11 mi.
Elevation Gain: 2300'
Grade: Steep in some sections mostly moderate climbing overall.
Difficulty: Novice but not Buck Beginner. All of the riding is on fire road. It's not suitable for the 'Buck Beginner' due to steepness and the fact that it is at night.
Trail Type: Freshly graded fire road. The first 2 miles are paved.
Ride Time: 1+50
Elapsed: 2+30 or so.

Required Gear: Helmet, good set of lights on your handle bars and/or on your helmet (the switch backs are plenty). Eye protection, bugs and dust are plentiful. Bug spray the gnats are super friendly
