La Tuna Canyon

hey! i just got back last night from camping in South Lake Tahoe and riding Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! i'm still buzzing from my new favorite ride.

judging from the group that has RSVPed for this ride, we should do the singletrack and make this an intermediate or better ride.

The Plan:
meet at the dirt lot just south of the 210 freeway next to the La Tuna Canyon Road exit at 5:15 pm. google 8054 La Tuna Canyon Rd, Sun Valley, CA 91352 on google maps. we leave at 5:30 and ride up the fireroad, which is pretty much shaded at this time.

the hard part is finding where the singletrack starts. last time i was there it was marked with 3 stones. we'll blast down and maybe stop to check out the red truck and blue truck and contemplate how they got there... or not! then there's the seesaw. last time it was overturned. we'll finish the singletrack and make our way up La Tuna Canyon Road back to our cars. we need to do it in about 2 hours to make it back before it gets dark around 8.

If you are familiar with the ride come on out and enjoy the fun. If you have never done this trail - maybe this isn't the ride for you? Ask lots of questions of them before your show up.

hey chris. thanks for posting this. we were actually thinking of doing the loop... up the fireroad, down the singletrack, then back up the road to the cars. we can take a vote depending on who shows up. also the address above is off... more like 8054 La Tuna. the dirt lot just south of the 210 freeway. i will be in tahoe tuesday to sunday.

Hey guys,
Make sure not to leave anything of value in plain sight in your vehicles. Wayyyy too many cars get broken into at that lot. I like to do that loop starting at Stough Canyon in Burbank (the area's not as sketchy). I might see you guys there.

Well i'm kinda on the fence still, I have some other stuff going on. But if it's a go for me I was planning on meeting you guys at the La Tuna trailhead. I'd ride up Stough, down the La Tuna singletrack, up to the trailhead and back up to the top with you guys. I don't want anyone waiting or anything so consider me a ghost for this one. haha.

i did wonder when i saw that pic. i remembered you were going up there. yeah, its the best ride ever! did you see this write-up or "blog"on toad's: http://www.southlaketahoe.com/biking/mr-toads-wild-ride i think it has some great photos of the ride. if you need a lift back to burbank(stough canyon), i don't mind. hope to see there!

LaTuna Canyon Trail is 2.2 miles moderate fire road called Backbone Rd to T junction Verdugo motor way and down to 1.5 miles to single trail start give total 6 miles trail shown majestic view of Mt. Luken my town La Crescenta and downtown Los Angeles, Burbank Air port best ride for mid week after work ride

The trail was good, it was my first time in California doing mountainbike trails and the lider Eddie was exelent, explaned me the details and he was worry about my safety and that I was doing well. I would like to do it a few times more before I leave LA.
