Called the crown jewel of Verdugo Hills, the La Tuna singletrack descent offers a trail with tunnel-like lush vegetation, picturesque little streams, together with some narrow paths to challenge your bike handling skills. The ride starts by climbing the Hostetter fireroad which offers outstanding views of the San Gabriel Valley, Burbank, Glendale, Sunland Valley, Mt. Lukens, and beyond. A spin along the Verdugo Motorway leads you to the La Tuna Canyon singletrack. Our ride in La Tuna will begin with a 3.5 mile 1,300 ft climb to the top of the Verdugo Hills. From there we will ride along the ridge and drop down into the canyon on a sweet single-track. Once at the bottom there will be a 1.25 mile road ride back to the starting point with about 300 feet of climbing. DIRECTIONS: Take the I-210 freeway to La Tuna Canyon Rd. in La Crescenta. Directly opposite the eastbound I-210 off-ramp is a gated road with parking.
The climb up the road is not too steep it's just somewhat of a long grind. Think Blackstar...
