GMR / Monroe Truck Trail

GMR Staging Area 2 (map)

Selected By: A former member

Imagine this folks: 6 miles of super fun downhill action for just a few hundred feet of easy climbing. The way down is a mixture of fire road, double track and single track and is totally doable for an experienced beginner (not newbie). There are no major obstacles, drop offs, etc. It's just pure FUN! Now consider doing that three more times in a day in just a few hours. It's totally possible!

Whether you have a hard tail, full suspension, all-mountain or downhill rig, you'll be fine. Any mountain bike will do.

Since we'll be doing our own shuttles up the mountain, you'll be expected to help out with transporting bikes / people or both up to the top.

Please, no carpools - we need the extra vehicles!

Pads are not necessary, but if you have them, bring them. Same for a full face helmet - nice to have, but not necessary.

If 8AM is too early for you, you're welcome to come to the second run. Each run takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes. We should be back at the bottom around 9:30AM.

If you have a radio, bring it. We're on channel 7/7.

Having second thoughts about bring my Big Hit out. I think I'll bring my GT instead. Any possibility of flash floods or land slides? Hope not.

junior, the GT with be fine on this trail. maybe bring the big hit when conditions are better. the BH would be nice on the GO trail. as for Flash Floods, the canyon will have more water in it than in the past. nothing super deep, but you'll get your feet wet (like they won't be wet already).

might want to check in the morning to make sure the road to the top is open, sometimes closed for mudslides:

Landslides: unlikely, flash floods: possible, but it would take an awful lot of rain. Plus there are two alternatives to avoid the creek area. The terrain absorbs and/or deflects most of the water pretty well on this trail system, similar to Santiago Truck Trail.

Great to have met you all. A ride I'll not soon forget, that's for sure. Got a few hematomas from those 2 minor disagreements I had with my bike, but no worse for wear. I promise next time I ride with ya I'll have breaks.

So we ended up with 8 people total and did a couple runs down. 1st run was great - it stopped raining when we began our ride. 2nd run - well... big mechanical issues, a ton of rain and some hail. But it was a great time had by all!

Can't believe Renee went down the whole trail with no brakes. 2nd run, John, Tyler and I all only had front brakes. That was quite a challenge with all the ruts and slippery surfaces on the way down! The mystic trail is all jacked up now - that one used to be pretty smooth.

Off to performance to get Tyler a tune-up and new pads for me.

Gotta love that sideways rain and hail.

I've always wanted to ride in the rain. Today I not only got the rain that I wish for but also got the mud all over me and was soaking wet. To make it more interesting, there was lightning in the area and I was waiting to see which one of us will be the next lightning rod :). I would definitely come back to ride this trail. It was nice to meet Renee, Kane, John and Tyler.

wow. that was an adventure. i STILL love this trail...even when we were getting hailed on! top was muddy, but the rest of the trail was still great. mystic was a bit slippery and the canyon was flowign with water big time. there were sections when you were ridinga foot deep with the flowing creek for 20 yards at a time. great adventure and a fun group.
