Mornings in Sullivan Canyon

Westridge Mountain Biking - Start (map)

Selected By: Chris Ashford

The ride is a loop with a fair amount of elevation gain. We will start on Bayliss Road, just as it starts to climb. We will loop back to Westridge which will take us to the dirt. Following the fire road until it ends near the old missile battery. Depending on time, people can head back the way we came or carry on with the loop and do some single track.

This is a popular mountain biking ride for those on the westside. It gets hot so the aim is to bang it out before work and the heat.

Questions about the ride: what is the route, elevation gain and distance click here!

Expect to suffer a bit getting to the trailhead gate at the end of Westridge Road. But the downhill and the views are worth it.

IMPORTANT:
Mountain biking is an inherently dangerous sport, especially for those who tend to take risks. As event organizers we assume absolutely no responsibility for you or your equipment. We are simply a mountain biking “buddy”, nothing more. If you choose to participate you assume all risk involved. Also, please adhere to the following:

  • Always wear a helmet when mountain biking. This is mandatory, no exceptions.
  • Protective pads, gloves etc are recommended on more technical rides.
  • Know your limitations, and do not attempt what you are not comfortable with. Hike-a-bike is no shame.
  • Bring at least one spare tube, sunscreen, energy bars/food and enough water. Hydration packs are encouraged.
  • If you have radios, toolkit, pump/co2, or first aid kit, bring them.
  • Be familiar with and follow trail rules and etiquette.

Due to smokey air from the fires, we had to alter the plans a little. We rode up and back down the Sullivan Canyon single track instead of taking the fire road loop. I was pretty sluggish on the way up due to a lack of sleep, but the downhill is always worth the climb no matter how hard it is.
