The Plan is to ride San Ysidro and Cold Springs. That is at least two runs. If there is time and energy maybe more. As it was described to me, San Ysidro is the less technical of the two. Straight up downhill bikes are recommended for this ride.
A few things to note:
1.) Bells are a must on these trails. Most of the shops in town carry them. The hikers/biker relationship in the area is one notch below militant since the 90's so trail etiquette is important.
2.) These are intermediate-advance trails(more on the advanced side). Cold springs is 90% sandstone rock, beginners might have a hard time or may walk a lot of these trails if they go. There are plenty of flowy single track sections, but bottom line These are intense trails w/ some pretty steep exposure at parts. There are certain parts that even advance riders may have to hike. Bikers and hikers have died on these trails! With that said helmet and knee pads are a minimum recommendation. Also full suspension-downhill bikes are recommended. It can definitely be done in a hardtail, but its an absolute workout.
3.) Like I said before these are one of a kind trails. I have seen Specialized the Team testing out new downhill bikes here and the terrain and views are unique.
I am running out of time so you will have to go to elsewhere to get the full descriptions of these rides.
Also - if we don't get at least 7 people, we will leave the shuttle at home and do the ride organically.
Sign ups will be closed THURSDAY NOON. Plan your life accordingly.
Happy Thanksgiving!
